Summary:Offensive ads
Original Request:
I had already posted a problem about one ad that is religious in nature and offensive, talking about being gay and Catholic or being a Jehovah Witness and a vampire. The hover text says calamities of nature. The other ad starts off cute then says "all mister stinky wants to do is kill you all!" personally I think this is an inappropriate advertisement. The hover text on that one says I don't know about you, but that ketchup sure looks tasty. When I clicked on the second one it took me to a webcomic about Flying Man and his Beer. I have preteens that I was going to let sign up for an account, but if this is the kind of advertising IJ is using I don't think it would be a good idea. The other one also goes to a webcomic that talks about breast implants and other material I think would be inappropriate for younger users.

I was just wondering what was going on with these kinds of advertisements since until a few months ago I never had a problem with.

Thanks.

FAQ Reference:
Why does InsaneJournal have ads? How can I get rid of them?

Due to the fact your children are "pre teen" they cannot sign up for an account on InsaneJournal. The COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act and Rule) law states that no child under the age of 13 can sign up for an account.

Advertisements will never be shown on your journal; they will only appear on the site pages.

InsaneJournal has advertisements as an extra source of funding in order to keep the site running smoothly. InsaneJournal is able to stay online, in part, due to generous users who feel our service is worth paying for. Unfortunately, this income is not enough to pay for the costs of servers and bandwidth. To supplement this income, InsaneJournal uses advertising on its website.

Removing the advertisements is not possible with a Free Patient account which is what you currently have for your Role Playing account.

However, upgrading to a Permanently Insane account will remove the advertisements from the site while logged in to your account.

My daughter is 13, and I understand that ads are necessary for IJ. This isn't only about my child seeing these ads, they are also offensive to me. I have to see them every time I read a friends journal, since I follow an RP journal that means I see these ads quite often. I would love to pay for an account but with 5 people in my family and me working part time that's not possible at this time.

Like I said, I had no problem with the ads until recently. I was just wondering why IJ decided to use offensive ads, instead of the ones that they used before.

We are currently investigating the ad situation right now. If you come across any offensive ads while browsing InsaneJournal, could you please respond to this support topic with more information (screenshots, what site they are, what pages you found them on).
