Why does my journal (or friends view) suddenly no longer display correctly?
If yourself or another user posts incorrect HTML, it may affect the display of entries on your journal or friends view, by causing them to display in a different size, colour, cause strange tables and other effects too numerous to mention.
The most common problem with incorrect display is however when you are suddenly required to scroll sideways.
There are three main causes:
* Someone posted a large image (the most frequent reason). * Someone posted a long string of text with no breaks, like a long line of "hahaha" without spaces. Browsers attempt to keep the entire string of text on the same line, thus causing the layout of the page to stretch beyond normal. * Someone posted a poll with a large text entry box.
To avoid this:
* Use the cut tag when posting large images, long strings of text or complicated HTML displays. See http://www.insanejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=49 for more details. * Occasionally enter a space in any long strings of text * Shorten the text * Limit the size of any picture posted in an entry * Limit your poll's text entry boxes to a smaller size (Maxlength will not affect this; you can leave that as large as you need, up to 255 characters) * Check your post for faulty HTML.
Alternatively, you can can create a custom Friends group (http://www.insanejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=62) named "Default View", placing everyone in that view but the person who has posted the entry. This will temporarily remove the friend from your Friends page, but not from your actual Friends list. After some time, you can remove the Friends group, as the post causing the problem will no longer be displayed. You can also temporarily remove the friend from your list, or simply wait for the post to scroll off your Friends page.
