How do I post by email?

Please note that this feature is available to only Self-committed [paid] and Permanently Insane users. For information on upgrading your account in order to access this feature, please consult this FAQ. A list of additional features you will gain by upgrading can be found here: (http://www.insanejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=10).

To post via email, please enter the proper information at the mobile post settings page . Note that you will need to set at least one allowed sender address. It is highly recommended you set a PIN for identification purposes, or anyone will be able to post a journal entry to your account.

After creating a PIN, you will be able to post by sending an email to exampleusername@post.insanejournal.com with the PIN in the subject or the body of your message. It is also possible to send the email to exampleusername+PIN@post.insanejournal.com, replacing "exampleusername" with your username, and "PIN" with your PIN number.

Note that your email should be in plain text format rather than rich text or HTML format in order for it to post properly. There is no way to turn on the "Don't auto-format" option when posting through email. If you would like to keep your entry from being automatically formatted, you can use the <lj-raw> tag within your entry. More information on the <lj-raw> tag can be found here: ( http://www.insanejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=49).

More details can be found at the following page (http://www.insanejournal.com/manage/emailpost.bml?mode=help) at the . These instructions explain email posting in further detail, including how to post to a community, add current mood and music, and how to add an image attachment. Also, other methods of including your PIN in an email post are included within the above-mentioned page.
